Northern Arizona, Verde Valley MC Highlights VeraForm; Importance Marking Breast Surgical Site
Norther Arizona, Verde Valley Medical Center issued the following news post on Feb 26, 2020:
As a patient facing breast cancer surgery, you should know that precise "marking" of your cancer surgical site is an important part of your treatment. A marker is a device inserted at the surgical site. Precision in marking helps make sure you retain as much normal breast tissue as possible with the surgery. This ultimately leads to best overall post-surgical care by your wellness team. A new technology called VeraForm, developed by Videra Surgical Inc. and a group of cancer specialists including Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Beth DuPree, MD, uses surgical filaments - very soft, thin wires - to make that marking easier and more comfortable for patients. The filaments provide a three-dimensional, highly identifiable mark during mammograms or other kinds of imaging. It is now offered at Northern Arizona Healthcare. “For the patient, this means (we can monitor) you more closely with less chance of missing subtle changes in your breast anatomy,” said Dr. DuPree. Most importantly, the technology is easily seen on mammography and CT scans. In follow up imaging to detect new suspicious breast changes, there is less obstruction to the doctor’s view of what he or she needs to see – and you have a better all-around experience during a very difficult time.
